Anna Kournikova Playing Tennis

Anna K may be the most famous mediocre tennis player of all time, but that doesn’t mean she’s packed her rackets away for good. Hell no.

This week, she played in Sir Elton John’s “Smash Hits” tennis charideeee tournament in Atlanta. She teamed up with American star Andy Roddick to help Elton defeat a team of lesbians led by Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova. The event raised $400,000 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and Atlanta AIDS Partnership Fund. Which is nice.

Anna Sergeevna Kournikova was born in Moscow, Russia on June 7th, 1981. At the age of 5, Anna had received her first tennis racket. At that time, she only played to have fun and to us up energy. By the age of 8, Anna had been playing in Junior Tennis Leagues and been know by tennis scouts from all over the world. At the age of 10 Anna signed a management deal to go train in Florida. By the age of 14, Anna won the European Championship, the Italian Open Junior Championship, and also went Pro. Anna then went to win the Junior Orange Bowl, labeling her the youngest player to ever win an 18 and under division. In 1996, Anna played in the Olympic Games. 1998 was Anna's break through year she won, and played many games. In 2003, Anna semi-retired to work with back problems and ankle issues. Anna still competes in charity tennis events, and has said that she may play again if she is 100% fit. Anna now models, and is the spokeswomen for K-Swiss™ .
