Yaroslava Shvedova

Yaroslava Shvedova is not only hot looking but she also has one of the cutest smiles on tour. When you combine this with her powerful, athletic body the result can be only one, namely the perfect sight for the sore eyes. It's a real joy watching her in motion, and I certainly hope she will further improve her game in months and years to come so we could see more oh her. Too bad Borat hasn't seen this beauty because he would soon forget all about Pamela Anderson:)

Career highlights
Junior performance
Chan started playing in the junior circuit in 2002, and reached the SF stage at her first ITF junior event. With solid performances both in junior and challenger events, her combined junior ranking reached No. 2 on May 24, 2004.
However, her most significant junior victory came in 2004 Australian Open Junior Championships, where she partnered Sun Sheng-nan to win the double trophy. The achievement hinted at the emergence of a talented double player.
Professional performance
2003
While still a junior, Chan entered her very first pro tour in Tainan, where she reached the semi-final in the singles, and the quarter-final in the doubles.
Chan started her professional career in 2004. By the end of 2004, she already was the singles title holder of three 10,000 USD ITF events, including Colombo, Jakarta 3, and Taipei. She also won three doubles titles in Jakarta 3, Haibara, and Mount Gambier.
2005
Chan's 2005 season got a strong start with a win in the 25,000 USD ITF event in Taipei. She also won a 50,000 USD ITF event in Fukuoka. Later that year, she qualified for the US Open, but failed to defeat Serena Williams in the first round. After the US Open, she played two qualifying events in Beijing and Seoul, but failed to enter the main draw. However, she teamed up with Chuang Chia-jung to win her first tour-level doubles title in Seoul.
2006
Chan played in the qualifying events of all four grand slams, and qualified into the main draws in Wimbledon and the US Open, but failed to beat resurgent Alicia Molik and Belgian Kirsten Flipkens respectively. Her breakthrough and first tour-level win came at the Tokyo Open, where she reached the SF stage by defeating local favourite and two-time winner Ai Sugiyama. The victory marked her first Top 30 win. She also participated in the doubles event of Tokyo Open and reached the final stage, once again partnering Chuang Chia-jung.

As for her achievements in the challenger circuit: she won the singles titles in Melbourne, Fukuoka, Kurume, and Kaohsiung. Together with regular partner Chuang Chia-jung she also won the doubles titles in Sydney, Gosford, Fukuoka, Kurume, and Kaohsiung. After her victory in Kaohsiung, she surged into the Top 100, and was ranked No. 73 in the singles.
2007
To establish herself in tour level, Chan has only participated in Tour events in the beginning of 2007. She entered the main draws of the Australian Open, Pattaya, Bangalore, and Indian Wells, but failed to advance past the first round. In Miami she reached the second round by defeating Nuria Llagostera Vives, before losing to first seed Maria Sharapova.

Chan finally found her footing after entering the clay court season. In Charleston, she qualified into the main draw, and stunned No. 39 ranked Séverine Brémond in two sets to set up a rematch against reigning Australian Open and Miami winner Serena Williams. Chan was 5–3 up before Serena retired with a groin injury. Her magical journey in Charleston ended in the third round, where she was defeated by Venus Williams in straight sets

Sania Mirza (born November 15, 1986) is an Indian tennis player.

Mirza was born to a sports journalist Imran Mirza and Nasima in Mumbai. She was brought up in Hyderabad. Mirza began playing tennis at the age of six, turning professional in 2003. She was trained by her father, as well as her other family members and was sponsored by the industrialist GV Krishna Reddy. She went to Nasr school in Hyderabad.And later joined St.Mary's college for her graduation.

Mirza won the 2003 Wimbledon Championships Girls' Doubles title, teaming up with Alisa Kleybanova of Russia.

Mirza is the highest ranked female tennis player ever from India, with a career high ranking of 27 in singles and 18 in doubles. . She holds the distinction of being the first Indian woman to be seeded in a Grand Slam tennis tournament . Earlier in 2005, she had become the first Indian woman to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament at the 2005 U.S. Open, defeating Mashona Washington, Maria Elena Camerin and Marion Bartoli. In 2004, she finished runner up at the Asian Tennis Championship.
In 2005, Mirza reached the third round of the Australian Open, losing to eventual champion Serena Williams. On February 12, 2005, she became the first Indian woman to win a WTA singles title, defeating Alyona Bondarenko of Ukraine in the Hyderabad Open Finals. As of September 2006, Mirza has notched up three top 10 wins; against Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova and Martina Hingis. At the 2006 Doha Asian Games, Mirza won the silver in the women's singles category and the gold in the mixed doubles partnering Leander Paes. She was also part of the Indian women's team that won the silver in the team event.

Mirza had the best results of her career during the 2007 summer hardcourt season, finishing eighth in the 2007 U.S. Open Series standings. She reached the final of the Bank of the West Classic and won the doubles event with Shahar Pe'er, and reached the quarterfinals of the Tier 1 Acura Classic.
At the 2007 U.S. Open, she reached the third round before losing to Anna Chakvetadze for the third time in recent weeks. She fared much better in the doubles, reaching the quarterfinals in mixed with her partner Mahesh Bhupathi and the quarterfinals in the women's doubles with Bethanie Mattek, including an impressive win over number two seeds Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur.

She represented India at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, in the women's singles and doubles events. In singles, she retired in the round of 64, while she was trailing 1-6, 1-2 against Iveta Benešová of Czech Republic. She teamed up with Sunitha Rao for the doubles event. They got a walk-over in the round of 32, but lost to Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova and Dinara Safina by 4-6, 4-6, in the round of 16.

Amelie Mauresmo won both the Australian Open and Wimbledon tennis tournaments in 2006. They were her first major championships, but Mauresmo was already among the elite of women's tennis, known in particular for her powerful physique and athletic game. Mauresmo played in her first professional tournaments in 1995, and qualified for her first French Open the same year. She claimed her first WTA title in Bratislava in 1999. The same year, she made headlines off the court after telling a French newspaper that she was gay. She won another 20 tournaments before her 2006 breakthroughs at Australia and Wimbledon. (She defeated Justine Henin-Hardenne in the finals of both tournaments.) I just came back from watching my friend Pauline Parmentier playing Daniela Hantuchova. She wasn't able to win but the second set was really close, which I was happy about! Pauline was playing very well in the second set.

Apart from my practice today, I had quite a relaxing day. We started off having breakfast all together, then we went on-site for an hour and a half of practice. I was planning to go to the gym but my legs were feeling a little tight, so I chose to get some treatment and a massage, as well as some stretching. I spent the rest of the afternoon taking it easy, before coming back to the site to give Pauline a little support during her match. And now I'm writing to you guys :)

When you're travelling to different cities around the world, do you ever find the time to visit historical places? - Trustus, Russia
I don't usually have much time. My trips usually just consist of tennis, gym, hotel and airports! But I did go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York this year, and saw some of Tokyo last month. I was disappointed not to see the Great Wall of China in Beijing this year. I always try to see Rome when I play there, because there's so much history there and it's so beautiful. And I did spend a lot of time in Zürich last week, as I mentioned in yesterday's blog entry.

Martina Navratilova is a legendary tennis player, and has been called the "greatest singles, doubles and mixed doubles player who's ever lived." She has won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, 31 Grand Slam doubles titles and 10 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles. She holds the most career titles of any player, male or female. She became a professional tennis player in 1975 at the age of 18, and has been knocking balls around ever since.

Martina is also one of the most famous out lesbians in the world. She came out in 1981, one of the first public figures to do so, and has been a consistent spokesperson on gay and lesbian rights. Her personal life has often been dragged through the courts, most notably by former partner Judy Nelson.

Yesterday Martina announced that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily the prognosis is good and the medics seem confident that it hasn't metastasized and she will make a full recovery. Lesbians all over the world are thinking of you, Martina, and wishing you all the best against this horrible disease.

At the 2006 Australian Open, Mauresmo captured her first Grand Slam singles title, defeating Belgian former world number one players Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin-Hardenne en route. Both opponents retired from their respective matches, Clijsters with a right ankle sprain in the third set of their semifinal and Henin from gastroenteritis in the final. Mauresmo was leading in both matches — by 6-1, 2-0 against Henin-Hardenne.

Mauresmo then won her next two tournaments, the Open Gaz de France tournament in Paris (defeating Pierce in the final) and the Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerp (defeating Clijsters in the final).

In the Qatar Total Open in Doha, Mauresmo defeated Martina Hingis in a semifinal 6-2, 6-2 but lost to Nadia Petrova in the final 6-3, 7-5. Had she won the final, she would have immediately regained the No. 1 ranking from Clijsters. Nonetheless, the outcome was sufficient to ensure Mauresmo's return to the No. 1 ranking on March 20, 2006. This reflected the fact that neither Mauresmo nor Clijsters participated in the 2006 Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells, California. Thus, neither defended her ranking points from the 2005 tournament, which Clijsters won.

Mauresmo then reached the semifinals of the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Florida, where she lost to the eventual champion Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Though now a Grand Slam champion and the top ranked player in the world, Mauresmo once again succumbed to the weight of national expectations at the French Open, losing to Czech teen Nicole Vaidišová 6-7(5-7), 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth round in front of a packed Court Philippe Chatrier crowd.

Amelie MauresmoMauresmo next suffered a first round loss at the Wimbledon warm-up event in Eastbourne. Mauresmo and Kuznetsova won the doubles title there, which was their first as a team and Mauresmo's second overall.

Mauresmo was the top seed at Wimbledon. She defeated Maria Sharapova in a semifinal and then came back from a first set blowout to defeat Henin-Hardenne in the final 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. The victory was Mauresmo's second Grand Slam singles title and first title on grass.

She then pulled out of the Fed Cup World Group I playoff tie against the Czech Republic due to a groin injury sustained during Wimbledon. She also withdrew from the Rogers Cup in Montréal.

Her next tournament was the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament in New Haven, Connecticut, where she lost in the quarterfinals to Lindsay Davenport 6-4, 7-5.

At the 2006 U.S. Open, Mauresmo lost to Sharapova in a semifinal 6-0, 4-6, 6-0. It was the first time in the open era that a female semifinalist here lost two sets at love.

Mauresmo then reached the final of the China Open, losing to Kuznetsova 6-4, 6-0. During the tournament, Mauresmo won 137 ranking points to help preserve her World No. 1 ranking and ended a nine match losing streak to Davenport. The last time Mauresmo had defeated Davenport was in Sydney in January 2000.

To conclude the year, Mauresmo reached the final of the WTA Tour Championships in Madrid, losing to Henin and finishing the year ranked No. 3 behind Henin and Sharapova.

Mauresmo started the year with a quarterfinal loss to Serb Jelena Jankovic in Sydney.

At the Australian Open, Mauresmo lost in the fourth round to Lucie Safarova 6–4, 6–3 after winning her first three matches in straight sets.

Mauresmo's next tournament was the Open Gaz de France, where she lost a semifinal to Nadia Petrova 5–7, 6–4, 7–6(7) after Mauresmo led 4–1 in the final set and had a match point in the tiebreak. This was Mauresmo's third loss in the last four matches with Petrova.

In her next tournament at the Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerp, Belgium, Mauresmo defeated the home favorite Kim Clijsters in the final. This was Mauresmo's third consecutive title there, earning her the diamond encrusted racquet that comes with winning the title at least three times in five years. The trophy cost US$1.3 million. Mauresmo then played the Dubai Duty Free Women's Open, where she lost to Justine Henin in the final.

On March 16, 2007, Mauresmo received the Chevalier (Knight) of the Légion d'honneur from President Jacques Chirac.

Mauresmo was scheduled to play the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami but was forced to withdraw because of acute appendicitis. She also withdrew from the Bausch & Lomb Championships in Amelia Island, Florida for the same reason. Although she had resumed training, she was not fit enough to compete at the J & S Cup in Warsaw, Poland.

At the Qatar Telecom German Open in Berlin, Mauresmo lost in the third round to Julia Vakulenko of Ukraine.

At the Internazionali d'Italia in Rome, Mauresmo lost in the second round to Australian Samantha Stosur 5–7, 6–7(4), 7–6(7) after Mauresmo led 5–3 in the third set and had a match point.

Going into the French Open, Mauresmo had played only three tournaments since the end of February. Mauresmo lost to Czech Lucie Šafá?ová in the third round 6–3, 7–6(4), committing eight double faults and 49 unforced errors.

Life happens when you are not on the court ALL the time. Blogs are reporting that Maria Sharapova dates Charlie Ebersol, the son of NBC sports chairman Dick Ebersol and actress Susan Saint James. According to New York Daily News, Sharapova joked that “my boyfriend will probably outbid you” before putting herself up for auction at the Bryan Brothers’ All-Star Tennis Smash charity event last weekend. However, one lucky guy won a date with the Russian tennis star - for $10,000. Charlie first received media attention when he and his father survived a 2004 charter plane crash that took the lives of two crew members and Charlie’s younger brother. Since then, Charlie has become a film producer, collaborating with Ashton Kutcher on the documentary Ithuteng (Never Stop Learning). The film debutes on HBO on Dec. 3.

The Ebersol family suffered great tragedy in 2004 when Charlie and his father were in a plane crash. Charlie’s younger brother Teddy, 14, died at the scene in Montrose County, Colorado. The Teddy Ebersol Red Sox Fields at Lederman Park in Boston was built in memoriam to the young man.

These photos crack me up because the scale is so skewed – he’s 6’7″ tall and she’s listed at 6’2″ – as if they’re any normal-sized couple going for a stroll.
